  • p4131870

The Fort of St. George is located on EN 247, near the Duna Grande de Oitavos, in the parish and municipality of Cascais, Lisbon district, Portugal.
It was erected between 1641-1643, in the context of the War of Restoration of Portuguese independence, and it was designed specifically as shelter for a small garrison, with the function to prevent landings on the coast between Guincho beach and Guia beach.
It is classified as a cultural heritage building by a decree from 1974. In December 2000, it was reopened as a museum and historical-military cultural space under the responsibility of the Municipality of Cascais.
